Tips

The Devil Ray is found within the Gale Cliffs at night a short distance from the Dusty Pontoon. The type label of Oceanic is misleading since the Devil Ray is found within the cliffs and not out to sea. Fishing spots are located in the center of the O4 intersection and in the western part of the junction of P3 and P2 (south-eastern passage from the waterfall).

Additionally the Devil Ray can be caught by trawling, but requires use of the Heavy-Duty Trawl Net in order to catch Oceanic type fish.

Players who are struggling to catch its aberration may wish to save the game at the dock, quit, and reload to refresh the fishing spots. Another strategy is to make use of Atrophy which increases the chance of obtaining a Withered Ray.

Real-Life Counterpart

  • The Devil Ray (Mobula spp.) is a genus of large rays found in warm oceans around the world. They have a distinctive body shape with wide, triangular pectoral fins, and can reach a wingspan of up to 5.2 m (17 ft). Devil Rays are filter feeders, primarily consuming plankton and small fish. Despite their size, they are graceful swimmers, often seen leaping out of the water. Some species of Devil Ray are considered vulnerable due to overfishing and bycatch.

Trivia

  • The Devil Ray is one of three fish to have the same number of letters in its name as it takes slots in the cargo. The other two are Cod and Oarfish.
