The Oarfish is an Exotic Fish that can be caught in DREDGE.

The Oarfish must be caught as part of the Recording Rarities Pursuit given by the Travelling Merchant.

The Oarfish can only be found in one location. Its fishing spot is located within Gale Cliffs behind the waterfall in a secret cave. Once the singular fish has been caught, the fishing spot will never be replenished unless an Exotic Bait is used in the same area.

Real-Life Counterpart

Oarfish, belonging to the family Regalecidae, are some of the longest bony fish in the world, with reported lengths reaching up to 11 meters (36 feet).

They inhabit deep ocean waters, typically at depths of 200 to 1,000 meters (656 to 3,280 feet), and are known for their elongated, ribbon-like bodies and distinctively large dorsal fin that runs along their backs. Oarfish are generally silver or bluish in color, and their striking appearance has contributed to various myths and legends about sea monsters throughout history.

These fish are primarily pelagic and feed on small fish, plankton, and jellyfish, using their long bodies to navigate the open water. Despite their size, oarfish are rarely seen by humans, often spending most of their lives in the depths of the ocean. Their occasional appearances near the surface, sometimes associated with unusual behaviors, have led to speculation about their ecological role and health of oceanic environments.

Oarfish are considered a species of least concern by the IUCN, but their deep-sea habitat makes them vulnerable to changes in ocean conditions, such as temperature and food availability, prompting interest in their conservation and study.

Trivia
