Real-Life Counterpart
- The Rock Crab (Cancer irroratus) is a common species of crab found along the Atlantic coast of North America, from Canada to Florida. Characterized by their robust, hard shells and strong claws, they typically measure between 15 to 25 cm (6 to 10 in) across the carapace. Rock Crabs have a mottled coloration that helps them blend into their rocky and sandy habitats, where they often seek shelter among rocks and crevices. They are opportunistic feeders, primarily consuming mollusks, crustaceans, and detritus. While Rock Crabs are commercially harvested for their meat, overfishing and habitat destruction have raised concerns about their populations, leading to the implementation of management practices to ensure sustainability.
