• The Stonefish (Synanceia verrucosa) is a venomous fish found in the shallow waters of the Indo-Pacific region. It has a stocky body covered in wart-like growths, camouflaging perfectly with its rocky surroundings. Stonefish can grow up to 40 cm (16 in) in length. They are known for their potent venom, delivered through spines on their dorsal fins, making them one of the most dangerous fish in the world. Despite this, Stonefish are not aggressive and pose little threat to humans if left undisturbed. Their populations are stable and not considered endangered.
