The Handkerchief is the first Relic the Fisherman retrieves, given by the Fishmonger after bringing him an grotesque fish. Receiving this item also draws the attention of the Collector.

For returning the handkerchief, the player is rewarded with dredging equipment and the main Pursuit, The Collector.

• Although the game doesn't count the handkerchief as a relic on the save screen, the handkerchief is the first item the player recovers that has a relationship to the Book of the Deep. This can be recognized by the background color when the item is in the player's cargo, and the Collector's identification of its crimson colors and silver stitching.

• The Handkerchief was found in an Aberrant fish's insides, suggesting that either it was eaten by a normal fish and transformed it with the energies within, or that an existing aberration was drawn to it.

• Unlike the other relics in game, the handkerchief is not used in the final ritual.
