Description

The Fishmonger is a major character in DREDGE. He is the first merchant in the game who will buy the player's Fish. Additionally, he sells Crab Pots, but this option is only available once the player has sufficiently advanced in the Pursuit Caught to Order.

"Don't over-commit yourself— especially when that sun starts going down. Better to come back with a small catch than to not come back at all."

Pursuits

  • The Fishmonger is introduced and offers the pursuit A Fresh Start, buying the fish that the Mayor instructed you to catch.
  • The Fishmonger offers the pursuit Caught to Order, where he will ask you to bring him a series of fish three times before you must wait for another order to come in. After waiting, he will ask you to bring him an aberrant fish.
  • The Fishmonger offers the pursuit Grotesque Fish, where you give him an aberrant fish you find, receiving a Handkerchief he cuts out of said fish.

Notable Dialogue

  • "Some fish prefer deeper water, while others stick to the shallows. If you're looking for something specific, it's important to know what depth you're working with."
  • "Ahh... Now this is the sort of specimen to liven up my day. [...] It's not the first corrupted fish I've seen in these parts, so I'm sure you'll find more before long. I'll pay you well if you find any more." (upon receiving the first aberrant fish)
  • "Hmm? Do you hear that? It sounds like... the faintest whispering... [...] Please. Sell what you need, then leave. I must deal with this creature. Quickly now!" (upon completion of the pursuit 'Caught to Order')

Trivia

  • The day following the completion of 'Caught to Order', he emerges from his home stating that he has a headache and cannot remember the previous day's visit. This is implied to be the aftereffect of acquiring the aberrant fish, though it is left unconfirmed whether or not he consumed it.
