Description
The Fanatic resides in the ruins of an ancient temple. Upon docking, he will greet the Fisherman as a disciple of the deep and as his replacement. He will mention the rite of purification, then proceed to question the fisherman. Regardless of the player's answers, the fanatic will conclude the trial and state that the fisherman still has much to learn. He will give the fisherman the role of his initiate, his herald of the purge just as he was for the one before him.
Pursuits
- The Fanatic offers the "Flames of The Deep" pursuit, where he will instruct the fisherman fetch three Fathomless Flames from the shrines of the deep, then place those flames on the crucibles. Once the three flames have been placed, he will conduct the rite of purification and leave the fisherman to take his place.
Trivia
- It is often speculated upon that The Fanatic's original name was "Magran", which the Fisherman will learn upon talking to the Ingfell Resident. He found a scroll that had told him to eat aberrated fish in order to gain immortality and this knowledge drove him to madness. He soon disappeared from Ingfell and he was eventually referred to as "Magran the Fishman" among the remaining residents in Ingfell as a sort of ghost story.
- The Fanatic is showing textbook signs of an affliction from the Lovecraft Mythos known as "The Innsmouth Look". His right arm that is clutching the scroll has scales forming on his skin as well as having bulging eyes and a flattened nose, which are common symptons of The Innsmouth Look. It can be easy to assume that this was the result of his consumption of aberrated fish to gain immortality.
