The Fisherman is the player character. He heads to Greater Marrow after seeing a wanted ad for an angler. He runs his boat into the jagged rocks along the bay; the Fisherman survives the impact unharmed, but his boat is damaged beyond repair. Fortunately, the Mayor gives him one of the old rusty boats and gets the Fisherman to acquaint himself with the local Fishmonger and Shipwright.

For a while nothing seems out of the ordinary, until the Fisherman catches his first Aberration. He brings the odd fish to the Fishmonger who then cuts it open and hands the Fisherman his first Relic, a delicately patterned handkerchief. Upon returning to his boat, he sees a man outside his boat's cabin window. The stranger requests that the Fisherman bring the artifact to Blackstone Isle. Once the Fisherman arrives to the stranger's manor on Blackstone Isle. He introduces himself as the Collector and offers the Fisherman dredging equipment in exchange for the four remaining relics. It is with that pursuit the fisherman sails across the map, looking for the remaining relics.

Ending One

The lost wife rising from the sea

For this ending, the Fisherman must hand over all five relics to the Collector.

He will tell the Fisherman that they need to wait for the fog to thicken before making their last voyage to the sea. Once the time is right, the Collector will direct the Fisherman to sail west of Greater Marrow, to the place where they lost her. The Collector will begin to throw relics overboard. The last two thrown overboard are the music box and its key, left unturned. Despite that, once the final two fade into the depths of the sea, the melody of a music box begins to play and a female figure rises from the sea. This is the wife that the Fisherman/Collector lost to the sea, who rises from the depths. However, she is not alone as another creature rises before the boat, massive and adorned with countless tentacles.

The creature's massive size causes waves that rock the boat. The scene fades and we are shown Greater Marrows destroyed, fire and smoke rising from its ruins.

If you do the second ending first, the dialogue will change slightly. The Collector will fade from his mirror and the fisherman will note that the collector is with him as opposed to the dialogue saying the collector is aboard your vessel. Then the one who throws the relics, opens the book, and reads from it will no longer be "He" but "You".

Ending Two

The Fisherman and his shattered reflection

Finding the Old Mayor is needed to unlock this ending. He will shed light on the source of the fog and aberrations, the book, and suggest you talk to the Lighthouse Keeper about it. After talking to her, the Fisherman will be encouraged to confront the Collector about his book. It is in this confrontation where the true identity of both the Fisherman and the Collector is revealed. The Collector is nothing more than the fisherman's reflection in a mirror.

The Fisherman will then take the book back to the Lighthouse Keeper, who will point him in the direction where the book must be returned to. After the book is returned to the sea, the Leviathan will swallow him and his boat and the fog will clear revealing an aurora borealis in a clear night sky. The scene fades to Greater Marrow on a peaceful night.
