The Sleeper Shark is an Exotic Fish that can be caught in DREDGE.

The Sleeper Shark can only be found in one location. Its fishing spot is located within the The Pale Reach at G-7, behind some ice. Once the singular shark has been caught, the fishing spot will never be replenished unless an Exotic Bait is used in the same area.

Real-Life Counterpart

  • The sleeper shark, belonging to the family Somniosidae, includes several species, with the Greenland shark (Somniosus microcephalus) being the most notable. Found in the cold waters of the North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans, sleeper sharks are known for their stout bodies and relatively small eyes, giving them a unique appearance. They can grow to impressive lengths, with some individuals reaching over 7 meters (23 feet) long. These sharks are primarily benthic feeders, often lurking near the ocean floor and preying on fish, squid, and even marine mammals like seals. Their slow-moving, lethargic nature has earned them the name "sleeper shark," and they are often considered one of the least active shark species. Sleeper sharks play a significant role in their ecosystem as both predators and scavengers, helping to maintain the balance of marine life. Despite their size and ecological importance, sleeper sharks are not heavily targeted by fisheries, although they are occasionally caught as bycatch. Their population status is currently unclear, but they are generally considered of least concern by the IUCN, emphasizing the need for ongoing research and monitoring to ensure their continued survival.
