Real-Life Counterpart
- Sea cucumbers are marine invertebrates belonging to the class Holothuroidea, found on ocean floors around the world. They have elongated, cylindrical bodies that can vary in size from a few centimeters to over 1 m (3.3 ft) in length. Sea cucumbers play a vital role in the ecosystem by feeding on organic matter and detritus, recycling nutrients in the benthic environment. Many species have soft, leathery skins with spiky or tuberculated surfaces for protection. Sea cucumbers can also expel their internal organs as a defense mechanism, which can regenerate over time. While some species are harvested for food and traditional medicine, overfishing and habitat destruction threaten their populations, prompting conservation efforts in some areas.

The sea cucumber bears resemblance to the California sea cucumber. This has lead some community members to joke that California is canon to the DREDGE universe.
