Real-Life Counterpart
- The Fiddler Crab (Uca spp.) is a small, colorful crab found in coastal mudflats, mangroves, and sandy beaches around the world. Male Fiddler Crabs are easily recognized by their oversized claw, which they wave to attract mates and ward off rivals. Fiddler Crabs can grow up to 5 cm (2 in) in size. They are detritivores, feeding on organic matter in the sediment. Fiddler Crabs play a key role in their ecosystems by aerating the soil and recycling nutrients. Their populations are generally stable, and they are not considered endangered.
