• The Snailfish (Liparis spp.) is a diverse group of fish that inhabit the deep sea, often found in the Arctic and Antarctic regions. These small, gelatinous fish have a soft, flabby body that allows them to withstand the extreme pressures of their deep-sea environment. Snailfish can vary in size, but typically grow up to 30 cm (12 in) in length. They are not dangerous to humans and are known for their adaptability to some of the harshest environments on Earth. Their populations are currently stable, but deep-sea mining poses a potential threat.
