Real-Life Counterpart
- The Blacktip Reef Shark (Carcharhinus melanopterus) is a small species of requiem shark commonly found in shallow coastal waters of the Indo-Pacific region. They are characterized by their slender body, long snout, and distinctive black tips on their fins. Blacktip Reef Sharks typically grow up to 1.6 m (5.2 ft) in length and are known for their agility and speed in the water. They primarily feed on small fish and invertebrates, often hunting in groups. While they are generally not aggressive toward humans, they may exhibit curiosity. Their populations are currently stable, though they face threats from habitat degradation and fishing practices.
Trivia
- The Blacktip Reef Shark is the foil to the Bronze Whaler. They are only available in the opposite time of day to each other, and their inventory shapes are each others' enantiomeric mirror images.
- Despite being nearly identical fish, the Blacktip Reef Shark is $20 worth more than the Bronze Whaler, presumably because fishing at night carries more risk.
