- The Anglerfish (Lophiiformes spp.) is a deep-sea predator known for its bioluminescent lure, which it uses to attract prey in the dark depths of the ocean. They have a large head, a wide mouth filled with sharp teeth, and a distinctive "fishing rod" extending from their head with a glowing tip. Anglerfish can grow up to 1 m (3.3 ft) in length. They are found at depths of 200 to 2,000 meters (660 to 6,600 ft) in oceans around the world. Anglerfish are solitary creatures, and their populations are not well-studied, though they are not currently considered threatened.
