Its description refers to it as a pest and says it's not worth selling. This is for good reason as the crown of thorns takes up 9 spaces but is only worth $10.00, giving it a slot value of only $1.11. For comparison, the Blue Crab and Spiny Lobster both have a slot value of $7.50, while the Glowing Octopus has a slot value of $10.00.

The Crown of Thorns will take up the entirety of the space of a Basic Crab Pot preventing any other shellfish from being caught in the trap. Even in larger traps such as the Hardy Crab Pot or Efficient Crab Pot, the Crown of Thorns will take up enough space that Spiny Lobsters and Glowing Octopodes can no longer fit.
