Real-Life Counterpart

• The Spider Crab (Majidae spp.) is a large, long-legged crab found in the coastal waters of the Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, and Pacific Ocean. They have a rounded body covered in spines and a very long, spindly legs that give them a spider-like appearance. Spider Crabs can grow up to 1.2 m (4 ft) across the legs, making them one of the largest crabs by leg span. They are scavengers, feeding on dead animals and plant matter on the seafloor. Spider Crabs are commercially fished, and their populations are generally stable, although some species are vulnerable due to overfishing.
