Stellar Basin Creature

Description

The Stellar Basin Creature is an enormous kraken-like being found in the center of the Stellar Basin. It is one of the largest creatures in the game, and it poses a threat to the player as it will lash out with its enormous tentacles. If the player sails overtop of the creature, it will attack them rapidly with its tentacles, which can easily sink the boat in a matter of seconds.

Although the full body of the creature cannot be made out clearly, it appears to have a flower petal like mouth surrounded by numerous tentacles, similar to the bottom of a cephalopod. The Researcher speculates it is related to an octopus or an anemone. At night, it can be seen emitting a bioluminescent glow. In a passive state, the creature can be seen glowing bright blue, but upon getting too close, the creature's tentacle will start to glow red and yellow.

The Researcher gives you the Research Assistant pursuit, where she will assist you in finding a way to evade the Stellar Basin Creature.

Trivia

• It might be referenced in the Obelisk found at E5, Stellar Basin, as the form of a spore that eventually settled deep in the silt of the sea floor, before growing and spreading its roots downward. This indicates that the creature is more closely related to a barnacle, which start as microscopic larvae that attach to a suitable surface and grow outwards, with most species forming a shell, tentacle-like limbs, or both.

• The Stellar Basin Creature cannot be harmed. However, upon completing the Research Assistant Pursuit, the generator at the Research Outpost can be used to power a device to ward off the creature temporarily. Banish can also briefly accomplish the same effect.
