Scientist
The Scientist is a character that will be in Iron Rig DLC, slated to be released on the 15th of August 2024.
From the trailer and available screenshots, it is well understood that the Scientist plays a key role in the story and new game mechanics introduced in the Iron Rig DLC. The Scientist is seen collecting samples of fish aberrations from the Fisherman in the trailer. He also has samples of black ooze in vials that look similar to the ooze in the cargo hold and minigame screenshots, though it is currently unclear whether the Scientist is collecting these samples or distributing them.
Speculation
One of the promises Black Salt Games has made is for the player to be able to upgrade their Abilities. With the scientist's close relationship to studying Aberrations and their magical mutations, it is theorized that he will be the character to offer this function. In the screenshot of the Iron Rig on the DLC's Steam store page, there is a tab titled "Science Lab" where it is believed the player will be able to talk to the Scientist. In his dialogue screenshot, he discusses a hypothesis he has had for a long time, of which the iron rig plays a key role. Comparing two of the steam store screenshots, it can be concluded that a rift in the ocean floor is forming. The red line on the map behind the Scientist matches the rift seen underwater in the screenshot with the fishing minigame open. The DLC faq on Discord says
The Iron Rig by contrast will not be a new biome but will introduce new systems and give you a reason to revisit our five original biomes.

This has led many to conclude that these rifts will be appearing in every Region as the story progresses.
